The main objective of the Women in Filmmaking Conference is sharing of the journey and experiences of amazing women in the Film Industry to motivate and encourage ladies with a dream of becaming a filmmaker. We would like to break down the perception that filmmaking is a male dominated industry by introducing you these awesome filmmakers who are managing to balance the stigma surrounding the profession with family and personal life.

The speaker’s session is followed up by the Q&A session from the audience.

In the afternoon, our lady speakers will visit YWCA and have a motivational talk with girls that have been somehow disadvantaged in the past. We would like to encourage them and show them that everything is possible and the creative industry is the way to start!



King Cassie Kabwita is Zambia’s multi award winning Actress and she is widely applauded for her remarkable humanitarian efforts over the years and her passion for women and children. Cassie Kabwita has been a pioneer in the Zambian film industry, successfully becoming the most celebrated actress in Zambia and the Diaspora. Cassie's critically acclaimed breakout role was in the 2013 TV series, "LOVE GAMES". Her performance in "Love Games" earned the actress several prestigious recognitions locally and internationally, in Tanzania her blockbuster movie was “VITA BARIDI” in 2013 followed by MZEE WA SWAGGER in 2015 both Directed by Jacob Steven under Jerusalem Films Company. She is nicknamed as king Cassie based on her aggression towards her acting career for a woman in Zambia. She is the first Zambian actor to feature a Nollywood film and collaborate with Nigerian, Ghanaian, Tanzanian, Kenyan and Zambian Stars.


The   "Iron lady"Jessie Chisi is a self-driven young  a woman in the nascent Zambian film industry with 14 years experience in both TV and Cinema .   An  Alumni of Berlinale  talent  and Durban Talent campus and film Mart. She trained in  film in   Finland  and  holds a Diploma in TV production and currently in third year pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Development Studies at the Zambia Open University. She is versatile,  known for directing  Zambia’s hit show Zuba season 1 & 2 ( 2017  to 2019 ) also  2015 directing award winning short film Imagination that was picked by US TV channel. 2014 acclaimed empowering feature film about Zambian ‘s first female boxer Esther Phiri that also opened at CPH DOCs and premiered at Al- Jazeera. Beyond filmmaking Jessie is founder of young Cinema Zambia film training where is has trained over 250 young people. Her achievement include named  one of  10 Southern African outstanding female directors , 2017 push women Awards , 2015 first woman of the year in film Award Jessie Chisi a game changer with a strong passion to equip African women in film for global impact through training, access to industry and mentorship.


Becky Ngoma, Social sciences student, and graduate of tv production at ZAMCOM, is also a super creative, award winning, seasoned writer, casting director, director and actor, with 14 years experience in content production. Becky has worked on many successful and award winning local shows. After three years working on Kabanana Soap Opera, Becky forged on and was co-writer for the award winning love games tv series funded by CSH and tailored for anti HIV and anti-GBV social transformation in Zambia, Becky also co-wrote and directed Fever TV series. Becky recently ventured into the production of zambia‘s first telenovela Zuba as head writer, creative director and casting director.

Becky Ngoma is a trainer at Young Cinema Zambia where she develops the skills of aspirant film makers and content producers and further mentors young ladies joining the filmmaking profession. As an actor Becky has featured as a support actor in multi award winning films , I am not a witch, Mwansa the great, and Fever TV series playing support roles. Becky 's acclaimed awards include the best screen writer 2014 -Zafta award, Best television series 2016-Zafta award, and woman of the year in film 2018- Zambian women awards.

Becky's vision in progress is to create stories/communication messages that enlighten and Transform society positively and secondly is to contribute to the development of the zambia film industry via empowering the youths with skills development, and mentoring of female film makers.


Independent filmmaker Bridget Kashiba has 13 years of experience as a Producer, Actor, Writer and Director. Bridget developed the skill of writing at a tender age; writing stage plays in school, she grew to directing her fellow drama students and in secondary school she won several NAATAZ Awards that landed her an opportunity to feature in a ZNBC TV 2 series called GIRLS ALONE. She later landed more acting roles with Muvi TV, where she featured in two TV series namely HOUSE OF TINA and HOUSE MATES. Her passion for TV grew and she went on to nature her skills through online lessons under Udemy online training.

After acquiring the right knowledge, she registered her own film Company called BRITHENDAI ENTERPRISE. She went on to write 2 professional films called DARK SEPTEMBER and CIRCLE OF VIOLENCE which she produced and directed and both were acquired by Zambezi Magic Channel. She has successfully produced 3 TV Series amounting to 104 Episodes of which she wrote 39 of them and directed all the rest and they have aired on international TV. With her passion to teach others, she introduced the summer film Camp school where she impacts knowledge in upcoming filmmakers and it has been successfully running for three years.


Chansa Gabbi Lamba

Chansa Gabbi Lamba is a self driven positively charged personality who encourages both natural (Talent) and acquired (Education) abilities. She's a holder of a Level 3 Group Diploma in Marketing obtained at Speciss College in Harare, Zimbabwe and currently a 4th year LLB (Law) Student at Zambian Open University.

Chansa's Artistry encompasses Writing, MCing, Public Speaking, Voiceovers, Concept Development, Acting and Stand up Comedy. She is a member of the 'Zed Queens of comedy' and 'Selako Ntambe' comedy crew, she has worked with, among others, Climax Media, Tymeline Studios and YEZI ARTS in On Screen, Audio and Theatre productions respectively. Her recent works include a TV Drama, 'The Closet' which aired on Prime TV and a Sitcom 'Ndu' which aired on ZNBC TV1 and Diamond TV, the latest being her lead role as 'Sidi' in a play titled 'The Lion and the Jewel' which premiered in Lusaka on the 16th of August and is scheduled to tour the rest of the country. She is very ambitious and maintains that other than the ones we set for ourselves, there are no limits in life.
