6TH SOTAMBE DOCUMENTARY FILM AND ARTS FESTIVAL AWARDS CEREMONY

The 6th SOTAMBE Documentary Film and Arts Festival Awards Ceremony was yet another splendid and spectacular night, this year’s awards night was held on Saturday 28th September at the Garden Court Hotel, Edgar Chagwa Lungu Conference Centre, in Kitwe. In attendance were a number of familiar faces in the Zambian filmmaking industry and to mention a few: Preston Mwila, Cassie Kabwita popularly known as King Cassie who has appeared on international platforms like Nollywood and has won local multiple awards, Wycliffe Mwamba one of the best Zambian film director, writer and actor of the City on Fire fame and Elkanah Luam who stars in Zambia’s hit Telenovela “Zuba” and the duo writer/directors Jessie Chisi and Becky Ngoma, head writer of Mpali Henry Joe Sakala and many others.

The awards night was again graced with an overwhelming turn out, catching the attention of over 250 people in the audience. The VIP’s included the guest of honor Mr. Charles Kasolo, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Kitwe District Commissioner Mr Binwell Mpundu, ZNBC Regional Director Anne Mukabe, and the Czech Republic ambassador to Zambia His Excellency Radek Rubes, representatives from the sponsors Copperbullet Sports Bar, Powertools logistics, Yar FM, Flava FM, the Nkana Arts Society and Vizualise Solutions.

This year, the awards were competitive and the winners were as detailed below:

Southern African Category

The Best Documentary: “Kalumbila” by Preston Mwila
The Best Short film: “Monarch of Dreams” by Juliet Mambwe
The Best Feature film: “Kwacha” by Maynard Muchangwe.

National Competition Category – Aspiring Filmmaker

Short film: “Blunder’’ by Suzyo Mwale
TV series: “Mirrors” by Paul Wilo

The SOTAMBE Directors Martina Mwanza and Daniel Mwale together with their team members were more than grateful to receive such tremendous support from various stakeholders, who trust and believe that this festival is a great platform in Southern Africa that will help artists who believe in their dreams to realize their dreams. This platform doesn’t limit anyone with talent to showcase what they have to the world. Henceforth they looked forward to next year as they organize another Festival which will be even larger than this year!
